Our Beginning
The Jewish Secular Community of Asheville (JSCA) started with a few like-minded people who celebrated Jewish holidays together. The community grew by word of mouth, as others expressed interest in learning more about Secular Humanistic Judaism.
As we grew, we developed a more formal organizational structure, and in 2012 the JSCA was founded as an all-volunteer, 501-C3 non-profit organization.
With time we developed our Vision and Mission Statements to help us articulate what we wanted to achieve.
Vision statement: An inclusive community valuing secular humanism and our Jewish cultural heritage.
Mission Statement: Educate, celebrate and nurture our members based upon the principles of humanistic Judaism.
In addition we have added a list of guiding principles to support both the vision and mission for JSCA
JSCA is a member of the Society of Humanistic Judaism (SHJ) a valuable resource of Secular Humanistic Jewish information and guidance for our community.
